| The HPLS Evening Service for the Sabbath and Festivals is Volume 5 of the HPLS 6-Volume set. The siddur can be used both for the Orthodox and Conservative Ashkenaz Prayer Services. The HPLS siddur is available in a Standard Edition and a Handbook Edition. The content of both editions of Volume 5 is the same, except for the number of flow charts. The Standard Edition contains a total of 12 flow charts and the Handbook Edition contains a total of 8. The overall flow charts of the service had to be eliminated from the Handbook Edition because of the smaller page size. The Standard Edition measures 8 1/2" x 11" and contains 288 pages. The Handbook Edition measures 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and contains 495 pages. The Handbook edition is easier to hold, however new users of the HPLS may prefer the Standard Edition, as more parts of the service are visible on each page. Click here for a sample page from the Standard Edition. All volumes of the HPLS Siddur include prayers for the Nusach Ashkenaz, Nusach HaAri (Chabad), and Nusach Sefard versions of the prayer service |

| Part 1, Preliminary Morning Prayers. The first preliminary morning prayer is Modeh Ahnee (I give thanks). This prayer doesn't mention God's name and some say it while still in bed. The preliminary morning prayers continue with the Asher YahTzahr blessing (said after going to the bathroom), and the N'teeLaht YahDahYim blessing (said after washing of the hands). Then a meditation is read and the blessing for putting on the Tallis is said. The prayers up to this point are basically the same for nucach Sefard, Ashkenaz, and HaAri (Chabad). The order, however differs slightly and the HPLS siddur uses various tools to clearly note the differences between the three nusachim. The preliminary prayers continue with the songs Ah'dohn OhLahm and YeegDahl (summary of the 13 Principles of Faith), the 15 Morning Blessings (BrahChoht), the Ah'kehDah (binding of Isaac), the preliminary Shema Yisrael, and various prayers relating to the temple service. The Preliminary Morning Prayers section concludes with the Rabbi's Mourners' Kaddish. Part 2, Verses of Praise (PsooKay D'zeeRah). The purpose of the Verses of Praise is to prepare the worshipper for the main prayer. The Verses of Praise contain psalms and passages for all Nusachim, The following listing is inclusive for the three nusachim and the differences are noted accordingly: Psalm 30, Mourners' Kaddish, BahRooch ShehAhMahr (opening blessing to PsooKay D'zeeRah), HohDoo (1 Chronicles 16:8-36), Hashem MehLehch, L'chai OhLahMeem, Psalm 19, Psalm 33, Psalm 34, Psalm 90, Psalm 91, Psalm 92, Psalm 93, Psalm 98, Psalm 121, Psalm 122, Psalm 123, Psalm 124, Psalm 135, Psalm 136, Ashrei (Psalm 145), Psalm 146, Psalm 147, Psalm 148, Psalm 149, Psalm 150, VahYvahRehch DahVeed (1 Chronicles 29:10-13), Nehemiah 9:5-11, Exodus 15:1-19 (Song of the Sea), NeeshMaht (Sabbath addition to closing blessing), YeeshTahBahch (closing blessing to PsooKay D'zeeRah), Sheer HahMahAhloht (Psalm 130). Part 3, Shacharit (ShahChah'reet). Although Shacharit actually refers to the whole Morning Service, this part of Volume 5 is termed Shacharit to distinguish it from the Preliminary Morning Prayers and Verses of Praise sections. The Shacharit section contains the Morning Prayer and is almost 100% transliterated. It consists of the following major sections: Barechu, Shema Yisrael, Morning Amidah for the Sabbath, Morning Amidah for Festivals, and Hallel. Part 4, Torah Service. The Torah Service is performed during the morning service for both the Shabbat and Festivals. The service consists of the following main parts: Taking out the Torah, Blessing before and after rading the Law (Torah), Personal blessings, Blessing before reading the Haftorah, Blessing after reading the Haftorah, Y'koom PoorKahn Prayer, Blessing for the new month, Ahv HahRahChahMeem, Ashrei (Psalm 145), Returning the Torah to the Ark, and Yiskor (said on the last day of Passover, Shavuous, and Succoth). The following are included in this section: Musaf Amidah for the Sabbath, Musaf Amidah for Festivals, Priestly Blessing, Concluding passages (KahVeh, Ayn Kehlohaynoo, talmudic selections, etc.) Mourners' Kaddish, Aleinu, AhnEem ZmeeRoht (Song of Glory), Psalm of the day: (Sunday/Psalm 24, Monday/Psalm 48, Tuesday/Psalm 82, Wednesday/Psalm 94, Thursday/Psalm 81, Friday/Psalm 93, Sabbath/Psalm 92), HohSheeAyNoo, Psalm 104 (BahRchee NahfShee, for Rosh ChohDehsh), Psalm 27 (said from Elul to 7th day of Succoth), and the Morning Kiddush for Sabbath and Festivals.. |
